Coaching

Guidance. Support. Accountability. Coaching is a personalized, one-on-one experience that provides you with what you need to keep writing and pursuing your publishing goals so you don’t have to go it alone. Whether you just want to get the draft done, implement revisions, or establish a plan to get it all out into the world, I’ll help you figure it out with positivity and care.

Coaching isn’t just about the writing. It’s a one-on-one experience that’s all about understanding where you are now, where you wish to be, and receiving the support you need to get there—with your current manuscript, your writing craft, and your publishing goals. That can mean anything from helping you map out which road(s) to take, to providing you with the guidance you need to build the skills to get there, or even just making sure you don’t take too many detours along the way. I will be your support system, cheerleader and, when it’s needed, your brainstorming partner and guide.

Here’s what that might look like:

    • Accountability sessions to address time management and productivity issues
    • Evaluating and incorporating feedback (especially when multiple readers give conflicting advice)
    • Creating a plan to approach revision
    • Reviewing your revision process chapter-by-chapter to help you stay on track
    • Developing well-rounded characters your readers can connect with
    • Deepening the reader’s experience with introspection and emotion
    • Building a world readers can connect with
    • Providing actionable steps to build your author brand (including social media planning and building your website)
    • Establishing a plan and budget for self-publishing your book
    • Brainstorming and exercises to help you get “unstuck”

There’s more, of course. The point of our intro call is to find out what may be your blocking point and to build from there. If it’s not in the list above, that doesn’t mean we can’t address it.

    3-Month Coaching Packages

Find the pacing and structure that suits your needs. Custom and flex options may be considered.
Discounts available when paying for full package up front and/or committing for six or twelve months.

Investing in yourself starts with an intro call.

    No-Commitment Kickoff Call ($99.00)

Not sure you’re ready to commit?

I understand that if we haven’t worked together or if you’ve never engaged in coaching before, you may be hesitant to commit to the process for three (or more) months. For those who are uncertain, I offer a 60-minute No-Commitment Kickoff Call. This call will follow the same process as if we were kicking off a formal Monthly or Bi-Weekly coaching package (and, if you book a package, will replace that kickoff call). You’ll share more about who you are as a writer, what your goals are, and what you perceive to be your block(s) in getting to those goals. We’ll talk about what you want to focus on with coaching and come up with a plan for our next few sessions together.

If you choose to book Monthly or Bi-Weekly Coaching after this call, it will count as your formal kickoff and the $99 you invested will be discounted from your first month of coaching. If you choose to book Accountability Coaching, $50 will be discounted from your first month.

    Common Questions About This Service

Do I really need coaching? What's the benefit?

Just about anyone can benefit from some form of coaching. It’s about investing in yourself, receiving guidance and support, and—let’s be honest—even a little kick in the behind when needed.

Whether you’re looking to build specific writing skills, improve your productivity, or plan a course of action for your publishing journey, I’ll provide the support and guidance you need.

Which level of coaching is best?

I offer different frequencies and types of coaching because every writer is different. Some writers just need someone to help them set a goal and hold them accountable to it—thus the Accountability Coaching. Some appreciate having a coach who is more involved, can help them brainstorm, listen, work through issues, etc., thus the Monthly and Bi-Weekly Coaching packages. It’s really up to you.

What are sessions like? What can I expect?

That depends on which package you select.

    Bi-Weekly & Monthly Coaching:

    • During our initial call, we’ll talk about your processes and where you hope to go (long-term) as a writer, as well as where you feel blocked and where you most need support. I’ll ask some clarifying questions and then we’ll focus on establishing goals for our time together and set up our schedule. We’ll agree to your first “to-do” item or homework assignment to complete before our next call.
    • After our call, I’ll send you a summary of the long-term goals and your homework for our next call.
    • Between our sessions, you’ll work on whatever homework I gave you, while I may conduct research, find resources, and/or craft exercises to share with you during our next session. If you select a feedback upgrade (see packages above) I’ll also review the excerpt or chapter you share with me to prepare for our time together.
    • During follow-up sessions, we’ll go over your progress and continue to assess blocks you may be experiencing. I’ll provide guidance, support, or brainstorm with you through issues. Each time, we’ll agree to a “to-do” item or homework assignment before we sign off.
    • I’ll be available to you between sessions for any questions, stress moments, etc.

    Accountability Coaching

    • Once you purchase your package, I’ll have you email me to tell me exactly what it is you’re working on, what your goal is, and in what way you need help with accountability. (This could be word counts, hours spent revising, researching agents/presses, coming up with a plan for self-publishing, creating a social media calendar, etc. For example, you may say, “I want to boost my social media presence. My goal is to post 4x a week but I hate drafting/designing posts.”)
    • Every Monday before 12PM (U.S. Eastern) you’ll send me your goal(s) for the week.
    • On Wednesday before 12PM, you’ll send me a “progress” note. If you’re experiencing any anxiety, stress, blocks, etc. you’ll let me know and I’ll email you encouragement and suggestions.
    • At the end of the week, you’ll email me to let me know if you hit your goal, how it went, and if you didn’t why you think that was/if there’s something you may be able to do differently the following week (if you work on the weekend, I may respond to your wrap-up along with our Monday email).
    • And repeat!

    When are sessions scheduled?

If our Coaching Package includes virtual meetings, those will be scheduled on Tuesday or Thursday afternoons (U.S. Eastern time zone.)

If my availability is gone, I can let you know when I expect space to open up and add you to my waitlist.

    Do sessions/packages expire?

Yes, sessions do expire. For virtual coaching session packages, you will have from our first coaching session (when we will establish a schedule and goals), you will have the duration of the package plus one month to use all sessions (in case there are rescheduling needs). For email-only coaching (such as the base Accountability package) you will have the duration of the package from the time of purchase.

    Why do they expire?

When you book a coaching package, the time I dedicate to you goes beyond our meeting(s) each month. I will also be researching items and resources related to your goals, creating homework/exercises for you, reading your work, answering issues you have via email or text, etc.

To accommodate all of this, I have to block a certain amount of time in my schedule based on the package you choose. This means I can’t book anyone else during that time or I run the risk of overbooking myself and being unable to meet the needs of all of my clients.

I do try to give some flexibility and wiggle room as I can, but I like to be considerate of myself and other clients.

Can I extend my coaching beyond three months?

Of course! I recommend three months as a baseline because it allows us to see how we work together, what may or may not be working in terms of helping you make progress, etc. In essence, the first three months allow us to find our rhythm.

I am happy to continue to work beyond that. We can continue to book 3-month packages, or I offer discounted rates for 6-month and 12-month commitments.

What if I need to reschedule a session?

I understand that sometimes life happens, and we may need to reschedule. I ask for 48-hour notice if you are unable to attend a scheduled session and that we reschedule within two weeks of the originally scheduled date and time or it may be forfeited. If you miss a session with no notice, that session will be considered forfeited.

If rescheduling or missing sessions is happening too often, I may decline to reschedule due to the disruption to my schedule and the negative impact to other clients. At that point, we may need to address what is going on and consider how to best move forward.

What happens after I reach out?
    1. We’ll connect and I’ll send you a link to schedule a 15-minute intro call (if you want!). We’ll get to know one another and discuss why you’re interested in coaching.
    2. If you’re ready to move forward, you let me know which coaching package you would like to invest in. (If you are interested in a custom package, we’ll hammer out the details.)
    3. When you’re ready, I’ll send you a service agreement to sign. You’ll send that back to me with your payment for the first month (or the full package amount if you’re looking to save some money).
    4. I’ll send you my scheduler so you can book your kickoff call, during which we’ll establish a formal plan for your coaching.

If you’re interested in the No-Commitment Kick-Off Call, then you’ll send me your payment and I’ll send you my scheduler. If all goes well, you and I will jump to steps 2–4 above.

I just need to think out loud or run ideas by someone. Can we talk?

Coaching is really the best way to approach this, especially in terms of making long-term progress toward your writing, marketing, etc.

If you just want a one-off chat, though, you can book a 30-, 45-, or 60-minute craft chat to ask questions, brainstorm, and talk through ideas. (These crafts include no “extras”—I do no preparation or follow-up for the call.)

    How do payments work?

I require you to commit to a Coaching package for a minimum of three months. Payments can be made monthly or upfront (with upfront payments receiving a discount). If you choose to make payments monthly, you’ll pay the first month to get started and then we’ll establish the payment schedule based on when we begin.

My preferred payment methods are Zelle and Wise.

Do you offer refunds on coaching packages?

Booking a coaching package indicates that you have considered the time and financial investment involved and are prepared to commit to the process for the duration of your package.

That said, I understand that life happens. If you have a change of heart after purchase, you may cancel your package within 48 hours of purchase and request a full refund minus any payment processing fees. To cancel your package, email me ASAP.

    After 48 hours:

Monthly Payment Schedule: No refund will be issued.

Upfront Payment: A refund may be requested before the first coaching session is completed and will be issued minus the cost of the first session, payment processing fees, and minus any discount received for the upfront payment and/or extended commitment.

Beyond the guidelines outlined above, refunds and cancellations will be considered on an individual basis at my sole discretion.

If I work with you, will I get published?

There is a lot more to getting published than putting words to the page. Editing is one step. Marketing is another. But there are factors in between that are entirely up to you and the industry. I can tell you that I’ll provide you with expert feedback and guidance based on my subjective experience and expertise, all intended toward perfecting your writing and process.

I'm not sure which service(s) or package I need. Help!

If after reading through the services you’re not sure what you want to do, reach out! We can schedule a brief intro call to discuss your needs and your budget to determine the best path to take.
