Terms and Conditions

  1. For the purposes of these Terms and Conditions, “The Editor” refers to In the Margins LLC. “Participant” refers to any individual who enters the giveaway. “Prizes” refers to one (1) first-place gift voucher of $500 USD toward developmental editing, and one (1) second-place gift voucher of $150 USD toward developmental editing.
  2. By entering your information for this giveaway you agree to be bound by these terms and conditions. 
  3. Giveaway opens December 1, 2023. All entries must be received by 10:00 PM EST on December 15, 2023. 
  4. You may enter the giveaway by completing ALL of the following steps: liking and sharing the Editor’s giveaway post on social media, and subscribing to the Editor’s newsletter via the giveaway entry form. If any step is not completed, the entry will be considered void.
  5. Only one entry form per person. Multiple submissions will not be counted.
  6. Each Participant has the opportunity for one (1) bonus entry as detailed under HOW TO ENTER. Bonus entry will only be counted if the required entry steps outlined in point 4 have been completed.
  7. Participants must be over 18 years old on the date of entry.
  8. Participants must reside within the United States, no exceptions.
  9. Manuscript must be novel-length, complete at the time of drawing, and be in one of the Editor’s preferred genres.
  10. One (1) first place winner and one (1) second place winner will be chosen at random from all Participants and across all platforms. Winners will be selected and announced on December 20, 2023.
  11. There is no fee to enter this giveaway.
  12. The winning Participants must respond to contact from the Editor no later than January 15, 2024, to accept Prize and begin the booking process.
  13. The Prizes are for a specific amount off of developmental editing services provided by the Editor. The winning Participants will be responsible for the total cost of a complete developmental edit minus the prize amount. (To tally the cost of a developmental edit: multiple your manuscript’s final word count by $0.04 and deduct the potential Prize amount. See developmental editing page for service details.)
  14. Booking must be completed no later than March 13, 2024, and may be for any available project start date in 2024. Booking is considered complete once a winning Participant has submitted a signed contract and paid the retainer fee.
  15. Project start date is subject to the Editor’s schedule and availability.
  16. To the extent permitted by applicable law, the Editor’s liability under or in connection with the giveaway or these terms and conditions shall be limited to the cost price of the Prizes in question.
  17. To the extent permitted by applicable law, the Editor shall not be liable under or in connection with these terms and conditions, the competition or any Prizes for any indirect, special or consequential cost, expense, loss or damage suffered by a participant even if such cost, expense, loss or damage was reasonably foreseeable or might reasonably have been contemplated by the Participant and the Editor and whether arising from breach of contract, tort, negligence, breach of statutory duty or otherwise.
  18. Prizes are for a promotional voucher only and are non-negotiable and non-transferable. No cash alternative is available. Prizes may not be used toward a previous or existing contract.
  19. The name, address, email address and phone number of the winner must be provided to the Editor if requested to complete fulfillment of the Prize.
  20. In the event of unforeseen circumstances beyond the Editor’s reasonable control, the Editor reserves the right to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the giveaway or these terms and conditions, either in whole or in part, with or without notice.
  21. The Editor’s decision is final. No correspondence will be entered into.
  22. The winner’s name and social media username or handle may be posted on the social media profiles of the Editor after the winner has been selected.
